About the Green Mountain Goats
The Green Mountain Goats were founded in 2025 to try create a formal Premodern Magic scene to Vermont. Inspired by groups like the Rochester Royals and Duress Crew, we chose the name "Green Mountain Goats" to play on our home state's nickname. The group was founded on the principles of creativity, respectful competition, and fun. In addition to Premodern, many of our members enjoy Cube, Legacy and other community formats like Triple A and Old School 93/94.
Mission Statement
Green Mountain Goats strives to create a space that welcomes everyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, income level, collection size, age, experience level, or proximity (non-Vermonters are welcome here too). Premodern is an old school format, but many of our members (including founders) are younger than most of the cards they play with. We think Premodern is an incredibly deep and fun format with a lot to offer for everyone.
Proxy Policy
In keeping with our commitment to welcome players of all incomes levels and access to cards, we are a 100% proxy friendly club. We have unlimited proxies for all events we run. We want you to experiment and try whatever decks or brews you want.
The tenets of our policy are such:
- All proxies must not be discernable from other cards (basically, no marked cards)
- All proxies must be legible and clear as to what card they're representing. They should be prints (in B&W or color) of actual card printings.
- Please try to avoid using Universes Beyond printings for proxies (and in general if you can). It is not necessary to play with original or old border copies of any cards. Reprints are totally fine. However, many of our members have become disillusioned with the creative direction of MTG under UB and are seeking to create a space without it, and we ask you to try to respect that.
- If you have high quality proxies, do not misrepresent them as real in trades or sales. Obviously.
